At Toadbury Hall, September & October are the months of the Clivia Miniata (Amaryllidaceae family) which is an indigenous plant of South Africa. We have an exceptional collection of these beautiful colourful lilies here at Toadbury Hall and we celebrate their peak flowering time as a special highlight in our garden.

Along a winding path shaded by old oaks you will discover a magnificent array of Clivia plants. The flowers that needs shade or a little dappled sun comes in all shapes and colours, ranging through shades of yellow, peach, orange to deep red. They grow as individual blooms on the tip of an umbel, which stands on a hardy stalk above the green foliage below.

The Clivia Miniata has medicinal uses. In its natural state, it is used in its entirety, and is effective in treating pain, muscle stimulation, uterine stimulation and fever. Different parts of the plant are used for different applications.
